
Students enrolled in the Fire Protection and Safety Technology Program have opportunities to participate in a various student organizations and activities. Student chapters of national organizations such as the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) are active on campus. Student membership with the National Fire Protection Association and the American Industrial Hygiene Association are also encouraged. Unique to Oklahoma State University are the Fire Protection Society and the Student Association of Fire Investigators.
Student Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers
The Student Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers is a student run organization, which is dedicated to the professional development of students. The national SFPE organization's motto is, "Advancing the Science and Practice of Fire Protection Engineering Internationally" and is supported whole-heartedly by the student chapter. The activities include dinner meetings at which speakers are brought in to give presentation over current issues in fire protection engineering. This student organization is also responsible for organizing and running an Annual Fire Protection and Safety Symposium. Speakers are brought in from all over the country to present relevant topics to students and practicing professionals.
Student Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers
The Student Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers at Oklahoma State University falls under the Tulsa Chapter of ASSE. The student chapter of ASSE is student run and fully adheres to the principles of the global organization of the American Society of Safety Engineers. With high moral character, the members of the student chapter serve and protect the public and the environment. This organization is dedicated to the advancement of the safety profession and enhancement of the knowledge and skills of safety practitioners.
Fire Protection Society
The Fire Protection Society provides students with opportunities in public service, academic and professional development and social interaction with other students in the Fire Protection and Safety Program. The Society also provides students with some much needed down time from the rigorous curriculum of the FPST program. The Fire Protection Society is not only an organization that helps develop high morals in the members, but it is also there to aid Fire Protection and Safety Technology, OSU Environmental Health and Safety and Oklahoma State Fire Service Training when called upon.
Student Association of Fire Investigators
The Student Association of Fire Investigators is another organization that is popular among students. The members of this organization are interested in the field Arson Investigating. They often have Fire Marshal's, ATF Agents, Arson Investigators etc. speak on various aspects of arson investigation.
